R.I.P. Peter O'Toole (1932-2013)

In what has become his signature 'tortoise and the hare' move, James took the late lead in Tomb Bowl X with the passing of Academy Award-nominated actor Peter O'Toole on Saturday at the age of 81.

Having been shut out by John for most of 2013, James has had a 'December to Remember' with all of his activity happening in the past 10 days (Nelson Mandela on December 5th & O'Toole on December 14th?)

Can John find a way to tie Tomb Bowl X with less than 3 weeks remaining? We have ourselves a TOMB BOWL!

R.I.P. Nelson Mandela (1918-2013)

As we enter the final month of 2013, it had seemed that John was narrowly heading into his first Tomb Bowl victory in three years, hanging onto Patty Andrews' passing on January 30th.

However, tonight, as the world mourns the loss of former South African president, political activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela at the age of 95, the only joy may be from Brooklyn as James celebrates the life of such an inspirational man and pulling into a tie in Tomb Bowl X.

As one observer noted "now the brothers are in a dead heat (pun intended) in December!"

We wait and see what the last days of the year holds for the Behan Boys.

R.I.P. Patty Andrews (1918-2013)

The first important shift in this Tomb Bowl X came Wednesday night when Patty Andrews, the last living member of the famous singing trio The Andrews Sisters, became the last of the sisters to make it to that olde-timey radio microphone in the sky when she passed away of natural causes at the age of 94.

Patty Andrews was on John's list, so that puts him up 1-0 at the end of January. There's still 11 months to go, so it still is anybody's Tomb Bowl to win.

For the tenth consecutive year, James, Jr. & John Behan will take part in the Behan Tomb Bowl, a recreational contest where the two men try to predict which celebrities/famous people will pass away during the upcoming year.

Over the past nine years, both brothers have won the Tomb Bowl four times (John in 2004, 2005, 2008 & 2009, and James in 2006, 2007, 2010 & 2012) and tied in 2011.

Welcome to 2013 & the Behan Tomb Bowl Blog!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the official home of the Behan Tomb Bowl!

The Behan Tomb Bowl is the annual friendly competition between my brother John and I to predict which celebrities/famous people will 'slip the surly bonds of earth' (to borrow from former President Ronald Reagan) in the coming year. We don't do this for money or for one to do something the other. It is strictly for entertainment purposes (and the Tomb Bowl Tombstone...but that's for another post.)

For years, John and I have had many of our friends and family ask us whether we had a celebrity or not on our list when they hear of someone passing. Well, now, we have a way for you to keep up with us and our lists during the year.

Join us in the emotional roller coaster that is the Tomb Bowl. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat and the year-long anticipation to remember the lives of men and women who've left their fingerprints on our lives.

Later today, we'll put up our picks for 2013!
